Information needed from
Rescue
1. What portion of the run is not covered (city to city). If we
are unable to assist you, unless otherwise stated, we will forward
the information on in an effort to help you
2. Verification all vaccinations are current for the animal(s)
3. The temperament of the animal (i.e with other animals or if there
is any possibility they are aggressive with certain people)
4. We can't assist with an animal that has a contagious disease(this
is because of concern for our own animals-as well as the other
animals that may also be transported). Our rescuers will reserve the
right to refuse help transporting any animal if you fail to be
forthcoming on an animal having a contagious disease-this will
include refusal upon seeing the animal.
If the animal is a special needs animal:
| If it's diabetic or epileptic(for example)we would need the care info given to our volunteer up front before transport. Also any supplies or meds that are needed should be provided with the animal. You should also provide a contact number if a problem occurs during transport. | |
| Any health concerns (i.e stress of trip) |
5. If there are any special procedures that you
need our volunteers to follow. Also if there are any documents needed
to verify vaccinations in any particular state that the volunteers
may need.
6. The animals temperament with other animals. There maybe an
occasion when there will be other animals "getting a ride" from other
organizations.
8. Any and all info not covered in the above you feel is important to
include.
Keep in mind the IMOM transporters will be assisting you with your run-you will still be organizing your own runs. It will be your responsibility to provide any and all information that is necessary, just as you would a transporter with your own organization.

Even though you are volunteering for the IMOM sponsored email list, the transportation runs will be organized and controlled by each respective Rescue Organization involved. If there are any special procedures/rules that need to be followed to meet their requirements make sure they are explained to you upfront--you than have the right to accept or refuse helping with the run.

| With permanent marker put your name, phone number-rescue contact name /number--affix it to the animals collar (this is in case the unforeseen would happen and the animal gets loose) |
-Extra collars and leashes if you have them (in case one breaks)
| Do not use retractable or the roll out type leashes |
-Dish for water or food
| Bottled water |
-Blankets or towels
-Cleanup baby wipes (for possible doggie messes)
-Disinfectant
-If you have extra crate(s) you may need them if you have room
-Directions/instructions from the rescue organization
| routes and meeting place | |
| Who you are meeting (description of person as well as the car-and if anyone is with them their description also) | |
| Cell phone number (if they have one) of person your meeting | |
| If you have a car phone-make sure the person your meeting as well as rescue organizer has the number | |
| Special instructions for animal (if they are special needs for example) | |
| Instructions/procedures(if any) the rescue organization wants you to follow | |
| Contact numbers/names to call if you need to get ahold of someone enroute |
-Gas money and credit cards
-Drivers license, registration and insurance
-A camera (so you can have memories of the cutie you helped get to their new happy home-if you do get a picture let us know we'll post it on the site-so we all can share!!!!!)
Safety Precautions The different rescue organizations may have their own precautions they may want you to follow as well.
-Have the animal go to the bathroom while the other transporter is still there. Also ask other transporter to help you secure the animal before taking off
-Try stopping/taking animal(s) out of car only when there are at least 2 people there----Especially, if you think the animal maybe a problem or there are other animals around
-If you do need to stop-avoid traffic areas but pick a safe place not a desolate area. Check with rescue if they have suggestions or restrictions on places you can stop at. Rescue may know the route and give you suggestions.
-If animals are "uncrated" it's suggested you secure them in the car with a restraint-however if you use a leash leave enough slack so the animal doesn't choke. Usually the animal will settle down for a long nap.
****Remember--you and the animal you're transporting are "Precious Cargo" be careful -but have fun! You're doing a wonderful thing- in helping an otherwise unwanted animal get the loving home they deserve.
