Coco Gatica

Diagnosis - needs cataract surgery within 3 weeks
Amount needed - $1600 - The BDF has no funds available to make a pledge

I adopted CoCo after reading about her online from someone who cared about her. I knew she had trouble with her sight and didn't feel well but didn't expect how seriously ill and blind she was, also with great issues of anxiety and fear. I took her home in May and got an appointment with the vet right away. He hospitalized her immediately and told me he didn't know if she would even make it and it was against his better judgement to try. He made me cry so I asked him if he would please try as she has never had a fair shake in life. She was owned by a couple who threw her and a Great Dane outside with only a piece of plywood for shelter for 2 years after they adopted a baby. When they decided in April of 2002 to adopt another child, the husband decided to let the dogs loose in the woods and let them fend for themselves or else shoot them. A neighbor stepped in and took them to the rescue group. The Great Dane was adopted right away as she was purebred but CoCo lingered there. An old man paid for her to have a shave and grooming that cost him $80 because he loved her but couldn't take her home. She is a sweet, loving girl but has great fear anxiety, due to abuse and blindness, we figure. The vet suggested Prozac therapy to help her as she was becoming impossible to inject her insulin due to fear. I couldn't afford it but someone mentioned your wonderful group and Coco got a sponsor to pay for her insulin and syringes and initial consultation for an eye vet for possible cataract removal! I was moved to tears. I had not considered the eye surgery because I could not afford it but if you could help, it would be wonderful! For her to see again along with finding a home with love would just be the perfect desserts for her after her horrible past. I realize that maybe you cannot help but I thank you for considering my girl.

Copper Martin

Diagnosis:  Juvenile Cataracts
Needed: $2000 - Applicant has $500 - The BDF has no funds available to make a pledge

My dog Copper started out with a breeder that was originally going to terminate him because of his condition. I heard about Copper through a friend at work. The previous owner could no longer take care of him she said he was too much to handle. I have had Copper for 2 1/2 months. Copper is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. It is very sad to be around him watching him run into things and be very afraid of simply just walking into a new environment. The vet believes this surgery will give him a much better life. I need to do whatever it takes to get this done. I am a 24 year old college student. I work full time and really do not have any extra money to pay for this myself. I will pay as much as I can but I really need help from someone. Thank you, Andrea & Copper

Cinderella DePompa

Diagnosis: Infection due to burns inflicted by previous owner - eye needs to be removed ASAP
Needed: $675 - applicant has $100 and IMOM has pledged $300 from emergency funds

My friend Cinderella was burned, and thrown in a ditch by her previous owners. She was rescued by a woman with Pekinese Rescue and transferred over to Chihuahua & Toy Breed Rescue. Her burns started to heal, and her left eye had to be removed. Then I adopted her.

She has been a loving little addition, however, her remaining eye (which is non-functional) has become inflamed and is now causing her pain. Her Opthamologist feels it should be removed as soon as possible. This will cost between $645-675. Even though Cinderella was severely abused, and is blind due to this abuse, she is a sweet natured loving little dog. I'm a single mother, who recently started a new job, and I cannot afford the needed surgery.
