Guidelines for Information needed for
Adoption/Urgent Need Postings

We've gotten alot of emails lately asking what is needed to list a Blind/visually impaired dog on the Urgent Need Pages or Blind Dogs Up for Adoption Pages. Here are some guidelines to help get the information to us and listed ASAP (especially the Urgent Need listings). With either type listing send them to blinddogs-admin@yahoogroups.com Please do not send the text portion in an attachment-but as a regular email message. We will try to get the info posted to the web site usually the day it's received.

Urgent Need Page

The most important thing to give the shelter phone number and shelter name/location. Give as much info as you can about the dog. If you have a picture we can also post the picture. If the info is on a web site we can go to the web site to get the info.

If this is an owner turn in situation and the dog is not at the shelter than of course the contact address needs to be included plus as much info as possible.

Blind Dogs Up for Adoption Page(s)

Try to give as much info as you can about the dog. Other posts on the pages are a good example of what's needed. Here are some things you may want to consider including:

  1. Reason for blindness/visual impairment if known
  2. Reason for owner turn in if known
  3. Temperament (ie around children, cats or other dogs etc.)
  4. Include contact email and/or phone number
  5. city and/or state where the dog is located
  6. Any other info you think is important to know about the dog
  7. If your a rescue org. with a web site we can include the url
  8. If the info you want crossposted is on another web site we can get it from there

Unless you tell us otherwise we can also forward the info around to other lists/people.

Postings of blind and visually impaired dogs needing homes are also welcome
on the Blind Dogs Message Board

What we ask in return for posting your Visually Impaired Dog
bulletIf you place your dog PLEASE let us know so we can update the web site. It has been very frustrating to have people email us that they have inquired about a dog(s) that has already been placed...but is still listed on the blinddogs site. .....Please remember you are hurting the other dogs listed.

Thanks for all the dedicated work you do trying to find these wonderful dogs a forever home.

*Please make sure you are doing home visits when placing any dog...especially the senior and disabled ones. Horrible things have happen to the ones that can't defend themselves.
Lets all make sure that these nasty people don't abuse another animal!!!
