Forever Homes At Last 2

Braille and Dusty-Blind Boxers
One in NY and One in Maine

Braille is a pretty flashy brindle puppy with natural ears and a natural tail. Dusty is a pretty flashy fawn puppy with natural ears and a natural tail. Both dogs are up to date on their shots and Dusty has already been spayed. Both dogs are approximately 14 weeks of age.

The puppies came to SCBR via Texas where they were born. No one is sure why they are blind, but testing has shown that it is irreversible. Both Dusty and Braille need permanent homes that will be able to work with them. As with all of our puppies for placement, the ideal homes will be ones where someone works out of the home or is a stay at home mom or dad.

If interested, please visit our site and complete the application online. Pictures and more information is available right on the site.
Thanks! Marian

Janice from Second Chance Boxers let me know both Braille and Dusty were adopted on 8/28/01

Grady & Homer - 12+ y/o m Lab-x and 10+ y/o Retriever-x
both w/vision problems, OR

This is a last, desperate plea for two old dogs who have run out of time.  O'Grady is an ancient black lab mix boy (possibly 12-14) with failing eyesight.  Homer is a 10+ golden retriever mix boy who is blind in one eye.  Both were picked up as strays and taken to our local shelter where they have waited vainly for someone to notice them.  O'Grady and Homer are very sweet dogs with much love to give.
All they need is a warm bed, some good meals and a loving place to live out their remaining days.  All our available foster homes (including my own) are completely full and I've been unable to find anyone to help.  Our shelter is now full which means that dogs will be put down - and the older ones are always the first to go.
If anyone can provide foster care for either of these dogs, please contact me immediately.

PLEASE, CROSSPOST EXTENSIVELY!  O'Grady and Homer are out of time.
Thanks!
Susan Faria
Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon

Susan contacted me to let me know that both the good and bad news about what happened to Homer and O'Grady.  I think her words speak for themselves....

Sadly, Homer was sent to The Bridge this afternoon after it was discovered he was suffering from inoperable cancer.  He was a special old dog who touched all of us and he left this world surrounded by people who loved and cared for him greatly.

Shortly after Homer left us a wonderful family came to the shelter asking specifically for a senior dog.  They were introduced to O'Grady and instantly fell in love with him.  When they left to take
O'Grady home his tail was waggin' and he was grinning from ear to ear.  We feel this was Homer's last gift to each of us.

Wolfie-Blind Siberian Husky-Statham, GA

Wolfie is an all white siberian husky. He is about 2 years old and was rescued about 7 mo ago from a truckstop in TN where he had been eating from the dumpster and off the leftovers travelers gave him. He may have been dumped there because he is blind in one eye. Wolfie is very sweet and undemanding. He is shy but loving and gentle. He likes kids and other dogs and is good in the house and car and crate trained. He would make a wonderful companion to a person who works at home and/or has another dog to keep him company. This pet is: up to date with routine shots, already house trained, altered.

Wolfie has been adopted!!!

Bonnie(blind) and Bobby (not blind)American Eskies Edgewater, Florida

Bonnie is an adorable BLIND American Eskimo baby girl. She is up to date on all shots. She is very healthy and runs and plays like crazy. She is extremely confident and knows no fear!! To watch her you would never know she is blind. She is VERY intelligent and knows how to follow sounds and scents to get around. She was born February 25th of this year which makes her 13 weeks old right now. She will need someone who is willing to deal with her blindness and is  knowlegable about blind dogs. She probaly would not do well with small children but would be fine with children who were old enough to understand her handicap.

She has a brother Bobby .  Bobby is another special needs baby. He has vision in one eye only and the tip of his tail bitten off by another dog in the puppy mill where they were born. He is thirteen weeks old and is VERY friendly and playful. He loves to be cuddled and loved. He is up to date on all shots.

It is preferred they be placed locally in the Edgewater, Florida.  Bobby and Bonnie need to be placed separately, they don't get along very well.
Kitten Jones
Kitten Jones of Lighthouse Rescue  Let me know Bonnie was adopted on August 14. She also said Bobby, Bonnies brother  had been adopted also

Snuggles-Blind and Deaf Lab/Aussie/Collie mix-Irving, TX

Female (mix: lab/australian shepherd/collie).  White in color with black and brown spots.  Rescued from the Irving, Texas Animal Shelter on 7/18/01.  Currently living with foster parents.  Very calm and loves to be around people and other pets.  Extremely sweet.  She is almost completely blind and deaf, but moves around the house and yard with no problems.  Foster parents are in the process of having her eyes assessed by a specialist.  We think her eye disability is due to a genetic defect.
Weight: 37 lbs.
Age: approx. 6 mos. (as of 7/19/01)
She has had her 1st round of shots and scheduled to be spayed on 7/26/01. We would love to keep Snuggles long-term, but we currently already have 5 dogs and one cat.  Foster parents will assist in
transportation or cost of transportation of Snuggles to her permanent home.  Foster parents just want to find her a good home to live in.

Snuggles foster dad Parrish T. Gunnels let me know that Snuggles was going to her forever home the weekend of Aug 11th. Here is what Parrish wrote:

I just wanted to let everyone know that we have found Snuggles a great home! Her new mom lives in Denver and already has a 5 month old lab who is a special needs dog too. I think Snuggles and the lab puppy will make excellent mates. I couldn't have asked for a better situation for Snuggles to move too. Her new mom is going to be excellent for her. I am taking Snuggles this weekend to her new mom. We're meeting in a town between Dallas and Denver. I will definitely miss Snuggles, she has been a delight to have in our house, but I know that Snuggles' new mom & home will be the best for her.

Virgil-Senior Blind Shih Tzu-Southern, IL

Virgil is a very dignified 10-12 y/o Shih Tzu gentleman who was found sleeping on the road where he'd been dumped. Is this any way to treat a senior citizen? He is a sweetheart who trots the yard like a show pony and quickly endears himself to everyone he meets. He is also blind due to untreated infections in both eyes, but compensates extraordinarily well (we think he uses "The Force", because he never runs into anything). Virgil is 100% housebroken and barks when he needs to go out for potty breaks. Pretty smart, huh? Virgil is located in southern Illinois. For more info, email us at

Virgil went to his forever home July 28th, 2001
