CROSS-POSTINGS!

Welcome to our new page for Cross Postings!  On this page we will be listing visually impaired dogs that have been called to our attention which are currently in Shelters.  Please be advised that we know very little about these poor dogs, and are passing along information that has been given to us without verification.

When a dog is put into a shelter and a rescuer posts the information, they are basically beginning an internet 'phone tree' in hopes of securing a life line for the animal.  As the wave of information spreads out, it is picked up and circulated by an ever growing base of 'cross-posters' who take that information and broadcast it to their data bases.

While this greatly increases the chances of the dog finding a home, it also increases the changes of the dog already having been placed, rescued or adopted by the time some of the cross-posters are receiving and retransmitting their information.

It will be our intent to keep this list fresh, and to provide as much detail as possible to allow you to contact the originating shelter with the dog.

Unfortunately due to the nature of these postings, it would be impossible for us to follow up on the individual dogs to determine the ultimate outcome, however, if it did become known to us, we would post it here as an update.

If you have a Cross-posting to add, please see the email address at the bottom of the page.

Solara (so-LAIR-ah) is a sweet blond Cocker Spaniel, about six years old and weighs 23 pounds.  She is blind.
>
> Solara was originally a rescue after a house burned-down.  Her family for the last three years had to surrender her due to family issues:  they are now taking care of the grandfather who has early Alzheimer's and was tripping over Solara. This was dangerous for both Solara and the grandfather.  They reported that Solara got along with the household cat and other dogs, but they don't know how she would be with small children.  They are very sad to have to surrender her, but they know that whoever adopts her will find her easy to love.
>
> Her current foster home reports that Solara is a loving little girl who is happiest when she is with her humans. She is not shy, makes friends easily and loves to make herself right at home.
>
> Solara has no vision in her left eye and only partial light sensitivity in her right eye.  Her right eye also has a cherry eye.  She needs Cyclosporine drops put in her eyes daily.  She is very calm when it's time for her eye drops.
>
> Solara is fearless when she explores the house and the yard.  If she bumps into things, she just takes it in stride and keeps on trucking (sort of like a robot-vacuum).  Her new home will need to make sure that the yard is safe for her:  no poking things like rakes or low branches.
>
> Solara used to roam the wide open spaces around her first home on her own, but she is learning to walk nicely on a leash.  Solara never had dog doors before, but quickly learned the joys of 24-hour access to the back yard.
>
> Solara has been spayed, is house trained, crate-trained, heart-worm negative, and is comfy anywhere in the house.  She will alarm bark, but is not overly barkative.  She enjoys tearing apart her stuffed squeaky toys, but has not destroyed anything else in her foster home.
>
> Solara would love to join a family where someone is at home much of the day.
