Butter

My name is Elizabeth and I am fairly new to the group. I have been reading all the email group letters and I am very impressed by everyone. I thought I was the only one who cared for my dogs like I do.

Now to explain how I am part of the group. I adopted a blind dog about two years ago. Someone had found him in the middle of a busy street and had brought him to a local animal clinic. I volunteer for a animal shelter called H.O.P.E. Safe House for abused and abandoned animals. The clinic called hoping to see if we could find a home for a puppy who was born with no eyes and extra toes.  I had to see this puppy. I went there and fell in love and brought him home the same day. He was only 11 weeks old. He is part Chow & Golden they think. I named him Butter.

4 months later he started have seizers. He has to take medicine twice a day now for the rest of his life. He does occasionally have fits of aggression but they don't last long and after they are over he is his old loving self. He is a very smart dog and always happy go lucky. He loves running up and down stairs and in the back yard. He gets along well with my other two dogs too. The only thing is you have to be ready to catch him at all times. When he gets excited he will just jump in the air at you. He has no fear at all. He even loves to go swimming with the family. To watch him you wouldn't know he was blind. Sometimes I swear he can see. I wouldn't trade him for the world.

You meet so many people who say how can you do it? I say how can you not. So many people think he should be put down. He is not handicapped in any way. He is living a full, happy and loving life. It is so nice to find people who feel the same way. I thank God everyday for you all. Keep up all the love.

These pictures were taken at Pet Fest 2000.  It is a fund raiser for Elizabeth's local shelter where she volunteers.  They have a dog show, dog wash, dog races and other things.  Butter loves going to the fund raisers.  He loves people and people can't believe he is blind while there.

Waiting for the dog show to start

Butter wins first prize for Best Appearance!!!

It looks like Butter would love to to get on that Harley and ride
