Max - 4 yr old blind Pekingese
SW Florida

Posted 9/12/2002

This is Max, a sweetheart of a Peke who will be needing all the help we can give him. He has ulcers on both eyes, weighs 10# but should weigh about 18#. He still needs to be neutered when his health is better. He was pulled, by an Angel, from a very high kill shelter (they think he is dead). This little boy has the sweetest personality, but is very depressed as you can see from this picture. If anyone wishes to help with the vet fees for this little guy, please notify Janice. I will be taking him to the vet as soon as I can get him an appointment. I know it will be a long haul for this little guy, but he deserves a chance at a happy life. Donations can come to Rescued Pets P.O. Box 11336 Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.  33339-1336

Update 10/5/2002:
It's good news. His eye infections have cleared up. We thought he needed an operation to reduce the pressure in his eyes, but I don't think that will be necessary. He's gained 2lbs but needs another 2lbs added before he can start heart worm therapy. If anyone would like to donate towards his heart worm therapy I wouldn't turn them down. I can send an address for the vet doing it or my paypal account information. Thanks for caring. p.s. He also is going to need a kind home. His previous owner abused him and caused retinal damage causing the blindness. Thanks Janice 954-566-5069

Cocoa - blind 5yr. old neutered male Peke
Fort Myers, FL

Posted 9/12/2002

Cocoa is an 8#, approx. 5yr. old neutered male peke who is blind, most likely to abuse. He has retinal detachment in the left eye, and had a severe corneal tear to the right eye. After he was placed in a kennel with large dogs at a pound, he became very fearful around other dogs. He will snarl "to fend off attack" due to being mauled by the other dogs in that kennel. This little boy is very loving and sweet, but cannot be approached while eating. I believe it is due to the trauma suffered at the pound.
He is up to date with his shots and tried to be house trained. He is learning to use the doggie door and gets around the house very well. He would make a very loving companion for the right person. He is being fostered in Fort Myers, Fl. by Peggy Dunn of Pekes And Pals Canine Rescue. Adoption application and adoption fee required. http://www.geocities.com/pekesandpals/index.htm

Update 10/6/2002
Cocoa is a precious little guy. He loves to snuggle, and is as sweet as can be. He is a little guy at 8#. His blindness is irreversable, but he does very well in spite of it. He has learned to get around the house and the pool deck nicely. (My pool is fenced off so there will be no accidents) I am hoping he will find a person who sees past his blindness to his loving personality.

Arthur - Blind Cocker Spaniel (6 - 8 yrs old)
Texas

Posted 10/03/2002

"Arthur" is a very gentle Golden Cocker who was picked up by Animal Control as a stray. No one has responded to advertisements or sought him at the Pound. He is currently in foster care for Senior Rescue.

Arthur is 6 to 8 years old by the vet's estimate, his heart is good, he seems to be in good health, eats well, poops well, loves to be loved. He is neutered, and also housebroken. He gets along with other dogs, and has done well around children who were over 5. He has a lumbering gait, and seems (according to the vet) to have arthritis in his left shoulder. However, he is walking better since we've been taking frequent short walks, and I've been giving him Shaklee Joint Health Complex.

He is blind due to cataracts (that are not the usual "blue")[Unable to display image], but walks well on leash. Around the house, he has no trouble once he has his "trails" that he follows. His hearing may be selective, or he may be hard of hearing, but sometimes he responds unexpectedly to sounds.

Arthur was rescued from the street and is being fostered in TX- He is a special and handsome senior boy, blind in both eyes and possibly deaf or hard of hearing. If you have anyone who might be interested in giving him a forever home, please contact me at ltnmphs @aol.com.

Chloe - 1 y.o. visually impaired spayed German Shepard shorthair mix
Los Angeles, CA

Posted 10/03/2002
(Posted 9/12/2002 on Urgent page)

Chloe, a 1 y.o. spayed German Shepard shorthair mix, is a special needs dog with vision impairment (she can see shadows and light). She was categorized as a 'stray' at the S. LA Shelter, but we think she had an owner because she is house-broken and loves to be around people and other dogs. She was extremely depressed at the shelter, but has become a well adapted and fun loving puppy within a short time, ready for a home with a yard and to be with people that have the same unconditional love that she has to give. This beautiful dog must find an immediate foster (or permanent) home NOW. PLEASE RESPOND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Thank you!

Update 9/24/2002
Chloe now has a temporary foster home so is safe, but still needs a permanent home.

Please contact the Debra directly by e-mail at hamiltond@gtlaw.com or by phone 310-497-6444.

Sophie - 3 - 4 yr old Cocker Spaniel (cataracts) visual, spayed female
San Diego, CA

Posted 10/04/2002

Age: vet says 3 - 4 years; previous owner says 1 year; She sure acts like a 1 - 2 year old puppy!
Temperament: She is very sweet. She is good with other Dogs. Sophie is a  little bit defensive, so supervised introductions would be best. She would be best in a home without cats; she wil give chase - the intent is still unknown. Unknown with Kids. She knows "sit" - if there is a treat in it for her! She definitely needs obedience training, but learns fast. Sophie rides GREAT in the car, is housebroken, and walks ok on leash but lots of room for improvement.
Medical: 23.6 lbs, UTD on shots.
Possible cataract in left eye. Clean bill of health! Many foxtails were fished out of both ears (so far 5 in one, 4 in the other)!. As soon as the swelling goes down, we will check to see if there are any more. Be aware that she will probably go blind in her left eye without cataract surgery. HW test scheduled for 10/3/02.  She is Licensed in County of San Diego and Microchipped by Avid.

Baxter - 6 yr old Schnauzer, diabetic cataracts
Swanton, OH

Posted 10/5/2002

Looking for a kind heart! Baxter came back to our program after he developed Diabetes. Since then, he has had plenty of lookers but once they discover that Baxter has to have a shot twice a day to maintain his insulin levels and has turned blind, those folks seem to run and hide. Here is a simply beautiful dog that is looking for just one kind family to take him in and make him a part of their family. His shots only cost about $20 a month--a trip to the grocery store for the basics. Nothing. In return, Baxter is willing to fill your days and nights with complete love and happiness. He maybe be blind now, but that doesn't stop him from wishing to feel the faces of a new and permanent family to love. He is now 6 years old and he is a purebred Schnauzer. Baxter is housebroken and is good with other dogs. He likes to bark at cats, go for walks and rides in the car. He know the commands "sit", "down" and "speak" and fosters are learning something new every day that Baxter knows. He is a laid back Schnauzer and follows fosters around the house. He finds a corner and curls up for a nap, as long as he is in the same room as you. He will make someone a great companion! He has not done any inappropriate chewing and gets along with all fosters' dogs and all the whole family. He is protective of his house and will bark when someone is at the door (it is a dogs job, you know). Baxter is just looking for one person out there to take him home and love him. Do you think you can open your home for this special dog?

If you're one of those angels we are looking for, contact foster mom direct if you wish at lomalady2@aol.com  or contact Linda at denlin@toast.net

Posted 10/23/2002

Shh, Jack is blind, but don't tell him that. He could care less. He memorized my house and does wonderfully. He loves to be held but is also pretty independent. Jack will do best in a home where things stay pretty much the same, where furniture and other items on the floor are not moved around much. I can't tell you how much I love the little blind guys. This is my third blind foster and they are very special and each finds the right person to give them a forever home. Jack is located in Houston, TX.
